No-Limit Hold’em Poker- Who is Phil Ivey?

Phil Ivey has been referred to as the best poker player in the world by many of the top-ranked pros. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to New Jersey before reaching the age of 1. His grandpa taught Phil one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was addicted to poker and wished to pickup whatever he possibly could about poker. He routinely told his elders that he wanted to be a professional poker player. Phil didn’t let the negative comments from other people annihilate his ambition of becoming one of the greatest poker players in the world.

He began playing seriously after acquiring a false ID by the name of Jerome. He practiced his game at the casinos in Atlantic City. The first few years for Phil were a teaching opportunity and winning wasn’t a normal thing at the time. Phil made his mark at the 2000 World Series of Poker when he achieved two final tables and came away with his first WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the closing table he defeated many of the better known pros including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He made a decision to take his skills to the successive level and moved out west to Vegas. Phil continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players on the planet. Phil credits his achievements to dedication and an eternal love for the game of poker. Phil states that he’s learning every day and is quite humble about his accomplishments. He admits to making mistakes every single session of poker and constantly aspires to get better.

Despite the fact that Phil has won some big-time tournaments, he likes destroying money games on a normal basis.
