NL Hold’em Poker- Who is Phil Ivey?

Phil Ivey has been branded as the greatest poker contender on the planet by most of the top pros. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to Jersey before his first birthday. His grandpa taught him penny-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was addicted to poker and wanted to pickup anything he possibly could about the game. Phil routinely told his parents that he was planning on being a professional poker player. He did not permit the negative comments from other people annihilate his dream of becoming one of the strongest poker competitors on the planet.

Phil began competing intently after getting a false ID with the name of Jerome. He sharpened his skills at the poker rooms of Atlantic City. The beginning few years for Phil were a learning experience and coming away with a win was not a common outcome at the time. He made his mark at the 2000 WSOP where he achieved two final tables and came away with his 1st WSOP bracelet, in a $2, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the last table he defeated many of the well known pros including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil decided to take his skills to the successive level and moved out west to Las Vegas. He continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players in the world. Phil credits his success to hard work and an undying passion for poker. He states that he’s picking up skills every day and is very abashed about his success. Phil knows he makes errors every single session of poker and constantly strives to get better.

Despite the fact that Phil has come first in some big tournaments, he favors winning cash games on a regular basis.
