Internet Big Stakes Poker- Who is Gus Hansen?

Gus Hansen experienced a wonderful year on the World Poker Tour where he was the only player to achieve final table in three of the events. Gus Hansen has been seen on High Stakes Poker on The Game Show Network where he paid $400, 000 to play. You may remember one of the biggest pots in big stakes poker recorded history competing against Daniel Negreanu. He won a large pot with 4 of a kind against Negreanu’s full house. Gus has made many tv poker appearances and is thought to be one of the best bettors anywhere in the world. While gambling on net poker, another side of Hansen has emerged. He regularly participates in the 200/400 No Limit max buy-in of $40, 000. Gus usually buys in for the minimum of $16, 000 and gambles very weak. He waits patiently for a good hand and then pushes all-in. I accept that Gus is a great poker player but certainly not even close to the regular players at 200/400NL. Unless he is flat broke, he has little or no reason to settle at the game with the minimum buy in.

Buying in for the minimum takes almost all of the expertise out of deep stack poker. Hansen is assumed to be one of the best players in the world but he can’t buy in for the total dollar value. I think television can alter our perception of the real world sometimes. The best players in the world could be players you have never heard about. Gus can be found playing internet poker on Full Tilt. He generally competes in big stakes omaha/8 and Holdem. Gus has proven himself as a competition player. Can he use his abilities in cash games?
