Online Big Stakes Poker- Who is Gus Hansen?

Gus Hansen enjoyed a marvelous year on the World Poker Tour where he was the only player to achieve final poker table in 3 of the competitions. Gus Hansen has been seen on High Stakes Poker on The Game Show Network where he paid $400, 000 to play. You might recall one of the largest pots in big stakes poker history competing against Daniel Negreanu. Gus won a massive pot with 4 of a kind against Daniel’s full house. Gus has earned many televised poker appearances and is thought to be one of the strongest enthusiasts anywhere in the world. While playing internet poker, another side of Hansen has been seen. Gus often plays in the 200/400 No Limit maximum buy in of $40, 000. Gus frequently buys-in for the min of $16, 000 and gambles very weak. He waits for a good hand and then pushes all-in. I believe Hansen is a great poker player but certainly not even close to the regular players at 200/400NL. Unless he is broke, he has absolutely no reason to play at the table with the min buy-in.

Playing for the min takes most of the skill out of big stack poker. Gus is presumed to be one of the best players in the world but he cannot buy in for the full amt.. I think television can skew our perception of the real world at times. The best players anywhere in the world could be guys you have never heard of before. Gus can be seen competing in net poker on Full Tilt. He normally participates in big stakes omaha/8 and texas holdem. Gus Hansen has shown himself as a tournament player. Can he back up his skills in cash games?
