Phil Ivey has been labeled as the best poker competitor on the planet by quite a few of the top-ranked professionals. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to Jersey before his first birthday. His grandpa taught him penny-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From then on on, he was addicted to poker and wanted to learn every little thing he could about poker. Phil routinely told his grandparents that he was planning on being a professional poker player. He didn’t allow the detrimental feedback from other people annihilate his goal of being one of the best poker competitors in the world.

He started competing seriously after acquiring a fake ID by the name of Jerome. He practiced his game at the casinos of Atlantic City. The initial few years for him were a teaching opportunity and winning wasn’t a regular outcome at the time. Phil made his mark at the 2000 World Series of Poker where he achieved two final tables and came away with his first World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the final table he destroyed a number of the better known pros including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil decided to take his skills to the successive level and moved out west to Las Vegas. Phil continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Ivey credits his success to hard work and a continuing passion for the game of poker. He states that he is picking up skills every single day and is incredibly abashed about his achievements. He knows he makes blunders in each session of poker and always strives to improve.

Despite the fact that Ivey has come first in some large tournaments, he favors destroying cash games on a regular basis.
