Internet High Stakes Poker- Who is Gus Hansen?

Gus Hansen enjoyed a marvelous year on the WPT where he was the only gambler to achieve final table in three of the tournaments. Gus Hansen has been seen on High Stakes Poker on GSN where he bought into the game for $400, 000. You may recall one of the biggest pots in big stakes poker history against Daniel Negreanu. Gus raked in a large pot with quads against Daniel’s full house. Hansen has made many televised poker appearances and is considered to be one of the greatest gamblers around the world. While betting on net poker, another side of Hansen has appeared. He regularly plays in the 200/400 NL max buy in of Forty Thousand dollars. Hansen usually buys in for the min of $16, 000 and plays very poorly. He waits patiently for a good hand and then goes all-in. I know Hansen is an excellent poker player but certainly not even close to the everyday players at 200/400NL. Unless he is broke, he has no reason to play at the table with the minimum buy-in.

Buying in for the min takes a majority of the skill out of big stack poker. Hansen is presumed to be one of the greatest poker players anywhere in the world but he can’t buy-in for the full dollar value. I think tv can skew our view of the real world sometimes. The greatest players in the world may be guys you have won’t have heard of before. Gus can be found betting on internet poker on Full Tilt. He generally plays in big stakes omaha high and Holdem. Gus has proven himself as a competition player. Can he back up his skills in cash games?
