NL Texas Hold’em Poker- Who is Phil Ivey?

Phil Ivey has been referred to as the number one poker contender on the planet by many of the top-ranked professionals. He was born in Riverside, CA and moved to NJ before reaching the age of one. His grandfather taught him penny-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From then on on, he was addicted to poker and wished to pickup everything he could about the game. He routinely told his grandparents that he was going to be a professional poker player. He did not let the adverse feedback from others destroy his ambition of being one of the strongest poker players on the planet.

He started playing seriously after getting a false ID with the name of Jerome. He practiced his skills at the casinos in Atlantic City. The first number of years for Phil were a learning opportunity and winning wasn’t a regular thing at the time. Phil became known at the 2000 WSOP where he achieved 2 final tables and came away with his first WSOP bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the closing table he destroyed quite a few of the better known pros including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He made a decision to take his skills to the successive level and moved out west to Las Vegas. Phil continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Ivey credits his achievements to hard work and a continuing passion for the game of poker. Phil states that he’s learning every single day and is incredibly abashed about his achievements. Phil admits to making blunders every single session of poker and constantly aspires to get better.

Despite the fact that Phil has won some big tournaments, he likes destroying money games on a regular basis.
