Novice Tactics for Pai Gow Poker

[ English ]

Pai Gow Poker is a current game with ancient ancestry. Founded on the ancient Chinese domino game and the modern American version of poker, Pai Gow poker marries the east with the wild west in an excellent game for early level players.

Pai Gow is a poker game that pits the gambler versus the croupier, unlike nearly all other poker games that players compete with other gamblers. By competing against the dealer, beginning players don’t need to worry about any other, more knowledgeable players winning their $$$$.

An additional Pai Gow benefit is the fairly leisurely game pace, newcomers will be able to take their time and plan without having to make quick decisions.

It’s also easier to bet on for an extended time with only a small bit of money since, to not win, each of your hands has to be under both of the dealer’s hands.

Pai Gow uses 53 cards; the regular 52-card common deck and one joker. The player is assigned seven cards faces showing and the dealer is given seven cards faces hidden.

A five card hand and one 2 card hand must be put together from the seven cards, the 5 card hand has to be higher than the 2 card hand. To succeed, a player needs both of his hand values to be larger than the casino’s.
