No-Limit Hold’em Poker- Who is Phil Ivey?

Phil Ivey has been referred to as the number one poker contender on the globe by many of the top-ranked pros. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and moved to Jersey before reaching the age of 1. His grandfather taught Phil penny-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From that point on, he was addicted to poker and wanted to pickup everything he could about poker. He routinely told his parents that he was going to be a professional poker player. He didn’t permit the adverse feedback from others destroy his goal of being one of the best poker competitors in the world.

He began playing seriously after acquiring a fake ID by the name of Jerome. He practiced his techniques at the poker rooms in Atlantic City. The beginning few years for him were a teaching opportunity and winning was not a regular thing at the time. He made his mark at the 2000 World Series of Poker where he made 2 final tables and came away with his 1st World Series of Poker bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the last table he destroyed many of the well known professionals including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil made a decision to take his game to the next level and headed out west to Vegas. Phil continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players on the planet. Ivey credits his achievements to dedication and a continuing passion for the game of poker. Phil says that he is picking up skills every single day and is very humble about his achievements. Phil knows he makes mistakes in each session of poker and constantly strives to improve.

Even though Phil has won some big-time tournaments, he likes winning money games on a normal basis.
